What we did
Architecture, Landscape, Interior Design.
On top of the dramatic Uluwatu Cliffs sits our most stunning project location. Boasting some of the world’s best surf and killer views to match, sunsets and breakers roll in from the Western horizon. The stage to create one of the best member’s clubs in the world.
Convert a disused and derelict recording studio into a world class beach resort. An all encompassing brief from architecture, pool and landscaping, to the club’s suite of hospitality and boutique villa offers.
We knew it was about getting the right recipe to stand out in the Balinese resort scene. Creating rich and varied layers within a single destination.
Part beach: Laid-back vibes with a distinct nod to Uluwatu’s rich surf heritage.
Part natural: Celebrating Bali’s world-famous natural materials, foliage and craftsmanship.
Part jet set: All the panache of an international member’s club.
The result was an attitude both boutique and punchy, inspired by a new generation of one-off venues that dance to the beat of their own drum.
Described by Tatler Magazine as one of the best private clubs in the world, Ulu has quickly become a firm favourite on the international club circuit. When superstar DJ Carl Cox turns up to host his own party, you know you’ve done something right.

Hospitality
The Cliff Bar and Restaurant offers tiered dining with fantastic sea views. Timber and rattan pavilions provide a soft dappled shade. Furniture is handcrafted and an eclectic mix of styles.
The F&B design approach express all the flavours of Ulu, each offer has it’s own distinct look and feel, offering guests multiple experiences under one roof.
Villa Designs
Villa décor themes are playful, the ‘Club’ rooms were inspired by a Panama Penthouse; luxurious tropical furnishings in navy, coral and brass are paired with rattan wardrobes, complete with in shower swing.
Three unique villa concepts were created to deliver a high level boutique stay experience, leaning into the themes of 'club' 'natural and 'beach'.
Landscaping
The Ulu pool is the hotel’s centrepiece. Loungers and bespoke sunshades arranged in ‘sets’ around the pool, make the perfect place to see and be seen. A bleached yellow diving platform is for posing and lounging on in equal measure.
Shed designed the signature Ulu pool and landscaping as an ode to mid century beach clubs with it’s geometric paving and tropical planting.
Rock Bar
The jewel in the Cliffhouse crown is hidden below out of sight. A winding stair leads to the secluded rock bar. The inspiration here was simple: Celebrate the stunning natural beauty of the rock outcrop rising above the crashing waves of the ocean.
A completely new architectural element nestled on a bare outcrop of rock at the cliff edge. A place to hear the crashing of waves and take in the beauty of the natural setting.
