What we did
Brand Creation, Strategy, Graphic Design, Interior Design
Delivering a full, end-to-end service, from brand creation to interior design. Counter House is born of a laid back attitude inspired by the sun-drenched brasseries of Melbourne. Whether it’s an indulgent burger or a next level salad, Counter Culture is all about a celebration of contrasts.
Shed was invited to create a new F&B business and brand, from naming and identity to full interior design and build. The brief was an all-day dining neighbourhood offer local to Manchester’s trendy Cutting Square.
Born of a singular idea: the basic and the beautiful, the design approach was all about pairing contrasts: From Melbourne to Manchester. This simple mantra is felt in everything from a relaxed and eclectic mix of furniture to a bold and playful art concept.
The result is a joyful mix of industrial and luxurious, honest and elevated. Counter is now a much loved local haunt famous for its legendary Sunday roasts.
A CELEBRATION OF CONTRASTS
The space is dominated by a 14m long coral counter, providing a sucker punch of colour to any grey Manchester day. An industrial suspended gantry houses a myriad of bespoke art pieces, designed by Shed.
Comfortable tensions are created throughout with unusual pairings that play on the industrial and the luxurious, the humble and elevated.
Counter Points
The art is a flexible platform to reinforce the brand narrative through a hospitality filter. Wherever one looks and engages there’s always a counter point of view.
The high-low approach is an expression of Counter’s broad and crowd pleasing menu. Customers can swap a full English breakfast for a full vegan breakfast. Cold press fruit juices balance against the best local craft beers.
