Commodity is a brand that strips away the clichés and looks to make fragrance more accessible to all. Shed helped them to imagine their flagship store and design their main touchpoints.

The Challenge

How can a fragrance brand feel premium while remaining accessible? Unlike traditional perfumes that rely on French terminology, Commodity modernises fragrance and simplifies the language around it.

The Strategy

Rooted in elemental design and a modern approach, they are the guiding principles that help communicate the Commodity ethos, making the exceptional accessible.

The Solution

By maintaining a consistent aesthetic across product ranges and retail environments, every touchpoint feels uniquely Commodity, blending elemental minimalism with artistic expression.

SCENT SPACE

The design language is stripped back to its minimal essence, using basic symbols and familiar visual cues to communicate ideas intuitively — allowing the audience to grasp the concept effortlessly.

Each core Commodity fragrance is available in three different intensities: Personal, Expressive and Bold, allowing customers to take control of their scent’s projection.

“Shed has been an extension of our team in helping us reimagine and reframe the Commodity brand”

BRAND ARCHITECTURE

We also helped shape the brand architecture, visual identity and packaging for their past, present and future collections.

Together with the main perfume collection, the brand has different offerings. The Editions is an ongoing collection in which fragrances from Commodity’s past, present, and future converge. This includes the Archive Collection — fragrances outside of Scent Space, yet with cult followings of their own.

CONCEPT STORE

Developing the brand architecture naturally led to imagining Commodity’s first flagship in New York. Our collaboration with RDK Architect added depth, helping translate the brand’s DNA into a space that feels immersive.

We collaborated with RDK Architect to craft an optimal layout that allows customers to explore their favourite fragrances—whether by scent profile or projection, and we created the first concept store for Commodity in New York City. To make the most of the interior height, we took inspiration from classic warehouse stacks of parcel boxes—reimagined with a minimal, modern twist.
